This is my second kyaraben.
That’s right.
After my failure, I didn’t give up, but decided to make something different and easier. So, I looked around the internet, and found how to make Makkurokurosuke and mini-Totoro.
Bento #2: Makkurokurosuke and mini-Totoro (from My Neighbor Totoro)
Created and eaten on: 9/17/2008
Unfortunately, it turned out to be more like “a bento with rice balls, eggs, veggie, and fish… and some of those foods have eyes on them.”
It was far from kyaraben… orz
Makkurokurosuke and mini-Totoro were okay, but how they were placed wasn’t. It looks like they were just shoved in there. (and yes, they were)
But as you can see, I did learn something from my first bento and got myself a hole punch before I made this.
Look how Makkurokurosuke’s pupils are perfectly round!
Yay for the roundness!!!
The white part isn’t perfectly round because I used scissors.
It wasn’t a small piece, so I thought it’d be fine, but I soon realized that cutting anything round is extremely difficult. T_T
And I also learned that inserting sesame seeds into a quail egg is remarkably difficult, and also doesn’t look too good…
Makkurokurosuke (soot mite):
– rice wrapped in seaweed for its body
– seaweed on fishcake (kamaboko) for its eyes
Mini-Totoro:
– quail egg
– black sesameseeds for its eyes
Sausage flower:
– fake sausage with baby corn in the center
Other food:
– salmon wrapped with fishcake, cherry tomato, broccoli, potato salad

Yes, yay for the roundness!!!!!!
