Why no bento blog?
It’s not because I’m lazy this time, but it’s because I’m on a business trip!
My boyfriend and I work for a post production company that licenses and releases Japanese anime, live action films, online card game (<-I’m in this game department now) and our company goes to many conventions throughout the year. It’s definitely fun to work at anime conventions, because we both love selling our products and just enjoy being there.
Anyway, we’re in Chicago, will be attending “Anime Central” from May 08 ~ May 10, so I probably won’t be doing bento related blog posts until I get back to the city. Instead, I’ll blog about the convention and anything interesting. I hope I can blog about food around here, but since usually these anime conventions are held in the middle of nowhere, there aren’t that much choices for food…
On the airplane to Chicago, we got a small sandwich, baby carrots, and a kitkat as a snack, so I decided to play with it.
First I played with it a little…

OH HAI!
And I decided to play with it a lot.

I can has hedgehog sammich?
The carrots weren’t the “best”, but they were fine. And we realized today’s date is May 7.

I wonder if they tasted better yesterday....
After we played with our food, we played some games.

My boyfriend was playing "Space Invaders Extreme" and I was playing "Professor Layton 2: Pandora's Box" (in Japanese)
Sorry I haven’t answered some questions asked in the blog, I’ll reply to the questions on the blog and emails I received later!

SO JEALOUS YOU CAN PLAY PANDORA’S BOX!! *__*
I wish they’d hurry up and release them in English already. Have fun at ACen!
hahahahahahahahahaha. I bursted out laughing after seeing the hedgehog sammich picture.
I just wanted to say hi… I love your blog, your food/art is amazing!
The hedgehg sammich picture is very funny! XD
Hope you have lots of fun at Anime Central!
And, out of curiosity, do you need to import a DS or DSi from Japan to play games in Japanese? I’d love to try playing games that aren’t translated once I learn some more of the language, but the last thing I want is to buy games I can’t play without importing a system.
Thank you, and I can’t wait to see more bentos from you!
GBA, DS, and DSi are not region coded. Meaning that you can play Japanese games on US GBA, DS and DSi, vice versa.
Japanese DS games are slightly more expensive though. But it’s so much worth than waiting for a couple of years for the game to come out in the U.S.!
I’ve played the first one in English, but when I started playing Pandora’s Box in Japanese, I found it harder to solve the puzzle in Japanese at first…. Who knew Japanese can be so confusing! 😛 I got used to it now though. (No British accent in Japanese version, of course. :D) I can’t wait for the movie!
Ahhhh, thank you! I’d heard somewhere that software for the DSi was region locked… wasn’t sure whether that applied to games or not. I understand them being more expensive (shipping and all), but I completely agree!
Granted, I need to learn a LOT more Japanese before I try that. Thanks again!
Yes, you’re right. Sorry, I think I didn’t make myself clear, DS games aren’t region locked, so you can play Japanese DS games on an American DS or DSi, BUT DSi cartridge games and DSi software will be region locked, so you can only play it on a DSi for that region. I think that most DSi exclusive games will probably use the camera. But don’t worry, all the Professor Layton sequels are for the DS!
Oh, no, you were perfectly clear! Thanks for adding on anyways, that’ll probably help me out if I ever end up buying a DSi cartridge game (though I haven’t really seen DSi specific games anywhere yet, so I don’t know if that’ll be an issue… hm.)
Good to hear, I’m intrigued to try those games out now!
Thanks so much!
omg, can you recommend some good DS games? my favorite is super mario brothers, but yoshi island and every other cutesy thing they put out super bothers me.
