beer garden June 20, 2009

June is a busy month for me (and also pretty much everyone I know) because there are so many birthdays! I’ve been busy attending birthday parties, making things for them, so no bento blog today. Again. I blame June babies for this.

My boyfriend and I went to his friend’s birthday party at a beer garden in Queens, called Studio Square. The place is 18000sqf. It’s HUGE. When we got there around 7:30, it wasn’t super crowded, and very pleasant. The weather was nice so we sat outside.

18000sqf!

It was the perfect weather for drinking outside.

The outdoor seating area is well lit and clean.

Even though the line to the foods looked like half an hour wait, the line was moving fast, and I got my french fries 10 minutes after I got in the looong line. It’s a beer garden, so no gourmet food here, but it was pretty cheap for a bar food. They have burger, sausage, sushi, etc… my dinner was a jumbo pretzel and french fries. Beer makes me full.

This is not even at the end of the line.

Its blurry, but there were so many people!

We left there around 11:30, and the place was PACKED. If you happen to plan to go there and you are a girl, make sure you head to the bathroom 10 minutes before you really have to go. I’m more of a hard liquor drinker, because when I drink beer, I have to go to the bathroom constantly, so I usually stick with vodka (on the rocks) to minimize the number of trip to the bathroom. (And I do love vodka, of course <3)

For the women’s bathroom, they have about 10 stalls on the first floor, and 5 stalls in the bathroom in the second floor. The second floor is still half under construction, so they only let you use the bathroom, but they won’t let you stay on the floor. For the first couple of hours I was there, only the bathroom on the second floor was open. When I decided to go to the bathroom one last time before we left, they closed the bathroom on the second floor, and opened the first floor. There were about 40 people in the line to the women’s
bathroom!! I’m not exaggerating.

Actually there could be more people in the line. I’ve never seen that many people lined up for the bathroom. Very fortunately, I didn’t really have to go when I got in the line, but I could see some poor girls in the line were trying to hold it very hard… Come on! It’s a beer garden! 18000sqf of it! I really hope they add more bathrooms in the future.

Studio Square is located on 35-33 36th Street (between 35th & 36th Avenues), Long Island City, Queens
Take R or V train to 36th st stop, or N or R to 39th Ave stop.

Nice. Beergarden or “Biergarten” is a german thing. I totally like it, eventhough I will never have the chance to compare american beergardens to our original ones. 😉

I was there about a month ago shortly after it opened. The jumbo sized beers were great!
