I wrote a little about a doll of my friend I made in my “Master Chief plush” post. This is one and only Dana doll. My friend and I wanted our friend, Dana, to wear a maid outfit, but we figured that she was too shy to wear it. So I decided to make her a doll of her wearing a maid outfit. I know it sounds very weird, but she (Dana) is adorable enough to be made into a doll. Still sounds creepy? I know. But if you’ve met her, you know why I made a doll of her. 😉
Stuffed stuff: Dana doll
Created and stuffed November 2006
I’ve made patterns for a human body before, but my original pattern was a bit too complicated. I wanted to make it simpler and cuter, so I changed the feet of the pattern from regular feet to “my little pony” style feet. (cylindrical shape)
The head is just a modified version of a teddy bear head, which I also made from scratch. I didn’t want to make her look too realistic, so I used a pair of blue doll eyes and put eyelashes. (because Dana also has blue eyes) For her wavy hair, I cut felt in wavy strips and sewed them onto the top of the head.
I never sewed actual clothes before, but the maid outfit was fun to make. I made the backside open and put velcro, so that you can change the clothes.
When I was making it, I couldn’t come up with a way to make shoes, so I went to Target, looking for baby shoes. But then I found two pairs of shoes for “create-a-bear,” one pair were black dress shoes, the others were casual sneakers. I bought them and put them on the doll. They fit perfectly! (The funny thing was that Dana also had almost the exact same sneakers as the one I bought.) I put pebbles in the bottom of her feet, so she can actually stand on her own!
As I wrote in the “Master Chief plush” post, Dana and Lupos (my friend I made the Master Chief plush for) are a couple. So I asked my boyfriend to take some pictures of the Dana doll and Master Chief together. Aren’t they adorable?
