behemoth chicken! September 2, 2009

My boyfriend has been coughing since we came back from Gen Con. No fever, no headache, just dry coughs. It went on for about a week or so. Just when he was getting better, I started to have the same dry cough. I’d wake up in the middle of night from coughing. It is absolutely annoying! I even lost my voice from coughing too much. So my co-worker told me to take a day off to get some rest, because guess what? I’m going to another convention! (Just me this time. My boyfriend will be staying home with my kitty.)

The convention I’m going to is called PAX. PAX is held by the creators of Penny Arcade guys in Seattle. (PAX is short for Penny Arcade Expo) It’s a pretty big video gaming convention, and this is the last convention for Alteil this year.

I know that the Behemoth studio (creator of Alien Homid and Castle Crashers) will be there. They gave me a super rare pink castle crasher figure last time I made bento of Castle Crashers, Animal Orbs and Pink Castle Crasher so I decided to make something for them, just as a token of gratitude for being so awesome.

Behold! The behemoth chicken!

Not sure if they’re able to take it with them, but if they can’t, I’ll just mail it to them.

Look at his cute beady eyes!

This is just a sneak preview, since I haven’t found right eyes for it. (I just used pins for now) Once I finish it, I’ll have my boyfriend take more pictures and post them on my flickr.

Check out his behemoth crown!

I just checked the Behemoth site, and I was pleasantly surprised that they just posted the squishy Behemoth chicken toy they’re making! Dammit. The squishy chicken looks much cooler than my stuffed one. Of course, I’m so getting one. 😉

He'll stomp you on with his behemoth feet!

Hopefully it’s not swine flue, but if I don’t get better by tomorrow, I’ll make sure to wear a mask or something on the airplane.

Watch out for the behemoth tail!

I’ll try to blog about PAX while I’m there!

I wrote a little about a doll of my friend I made in my “Master Chief plush” post. This is one and only Dana doll. My friend and I wanted our friend, Dana, to wear a maid outfit, but we figured that she was too shy to wear it. So I decided to make her a doll of her wearing a maid outfit. I know it sounds very weird, but she (Dana) is adorable enough to be made into a doll. Still sounds creepy? I know. But if you’ve met her, you know why I made a doll of her. 😉

Stuffed stuff: Dana doll
Created and stuffed November 2006

I’ve made patterns for a human body before, but my original pattern was a bit too complicated. I wanted to make it simpler and cuter, so I changed the feet of the pattern from regular feet to “my little pony” style feet. (cylindrical shape)

The head is just a modified version of a teddy bear head, which I also made from scratch. I didn’t want to make her look too realistic, so I used a pair of blue doll eyes and put eyelashes. (because Dana also has blue eyes) For her wavy hair, I cut felt in wavy strips and sewed them onto the top of the head.

I never sewed actual clothes before, but the maid outfit was fun to make. I made the backside open and put velcro, so that you can change the clothes.

When I was making it, I couldn’t come up with a way to make shoes, so I went to Target, looking for baby shoes. But then I found two pairs of shoes for “create-a-bear,” one pair were black dress shoes, the others were casual sneakers. I bought them and put them on the doll. They fit perfectly! (The funny thing was that Dana also had almost the exact same sneakers as the one I bought.) I put pebbles in the bottom of her feet, so she can actually stand on her own!

As I wrote in the “Master Chief plush” post, Dana and Lupos (my friend I made the Master Chief plush for) are a couple. So I asked my boyfriend to take some pictures of the Dana doll and Master Chief together. Aren’t they adorable?

A deadly adorable couple

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

stuffed stuff: mini-moose from invader zim July 9, 2009

Unfortunately for bento lovers, no bento blog today either. But fortunately for ZIM fans, it’s another Invader ZIM related stuffed stuff blog.
This is something I made a looooong time ago. Actually I think it’s older than Piggy.

stuffed stuff: Mini-Moose
Created and stuffed: August 2004-ish

There are a couple of different types of Moose in Invader ZIM. This is a Mini-Moose which GIR (a dog suit wearing robot) has in some episodes.

I’ve made a Mini-Moose bento before which had two different kinds of Mini-Moose.

As you can see, this one was very easy. Two pieces for the body, two pieces for the hands and leg, two pieces for the antlers.

Say Moosey fate!

GIR: "Say moosey fate!"

This one in the picture is probably from the very first batch of Mini-Moose I made. I had given away all my Mini-Moose to my friends, but fortunately, my co-worker had it on his desk at work, so I borrowed it from him.

ZIM: "But I chose this particular worm hole especially for the occasion..."

"You see, at the end of this wormhole lies..."

"A ROOM with a MOOSE!!"

AAAAHHHH-- Wait a minute!

DIB: "AAAAHHHH--? Wait a minute!"

My first batch of Mini-Moose was actually a bit bigger than the ones I gave to the cast members of Invader ZIM on the end of interviews on DVD. I had found a bunch of toys that squeak at a 99 cents store, took out the squeaky things, and put it inside Mini-Moose. Unfortunately, this Mini-Moose doesn’t squeak when squeezed. You can see the cast members squeezing it to make it squeak in their interview as well. (I’ll post some pictures from the interview later.)

The office move totally messed up my bento schedule, but I’ll be packing bento next week!

I didn’t post all the pictures of Mini-Moose on here, so if you want to see more pictures of him, please check them out on my flickr page.
